Privacy policy
This is the privacy policy for both the Domovia app and the Domovia website (www.domovia.app).
Domovia is built to be private by design. No personal data ever leaves your phone. There is no account system, no tracking, no advertising and no server of ours that receives your information.
One thing we want you to know up front, because it is easy to misread: Czech Lens uses Google's ML Kit to read and translate text, and that software reports technical information about itself to Google (see Text recognition and translation). Your photo and the text in it are never sent anywhere. What Google receives is information about the software — not what you scanned.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect, store on a server, or upload any personal data.
- We do not use advertising IDs, cookies or third-party trackers, and we run no analytics of our own.
- We do not require an account, email or phone number to use the app.
- We do not sell or share any data — because we don't have any.
- We do not send your photos, your scans, your notes, your events or anything else you write anywhere.
Everything stays on your device
Everything personal you create is stored only on this phone:
- My Events and My Deadlines — dates, notes and reminders. Reminders are local notifications scheduled by your phone's operating system, not sent anywhere.
- Saved / favourite items (phrases, culture, places).
- Learning progress, app settings and your chosen language.
- Any Czech Lens scan history (off by default).
- Your optional city and situation choices, which only reorder the Home screen. The situation is simply the label you picked — it is never used to infer or record your immigration status.
“Clear all my data” in Settings deletes all of it at any time, and uninstalling the app removes it too.
Content updates (download only)
When you're online, Domovia can download updated official information as ordinary requests for public files — the same kind your web browser makes. These requests carry no account, no identifier and no analytics, and nothing about you is sent in them. You can turn auto-updates off, limit them to Wi-Fi, or switch on Offline-only mode, which stops Domovia making any network request of its own.
Camera & photos (Czech Lens)
When you scan Czech text, the photo is processed entirely on this phone by on-device text recognition. It is never uploaded, and it is deleted right after it's read — nothing is kept beyond the session unless you turn on Czech Lens history, which also stays only on your phone. Camera access is asked on first use, and photo-library access only when you pick an existing image; declining leaves the rest of the app fully usable.
Text recognition and translation (Google ML Kit)
Czech Lens reads and translates text using Google's ML Kit, which runs on your phone. It is the only software from another company inside Domovia.
What never happens: your photo is never uploaded, and the text it contains — what your letter or form actually says — is never sent to Google or to anyone else. All the reading and translating happens on the device, and works with no internet connection at all.
What ML Kit does send to Google: technical information about itself, whenever you use Czech Lens. Google describes this as diagnostics and usage information, and it consists of:
- your device model, operating system version, and which hardware it can use;
- Domovia's app name and version;
- an identifier for this installation of the app — it is not your name, your account or a permanent device identifier, and it is not used to identify you;
- performance measurements, such as how long a scan took;
- which feature ran, what settings it used (for example which languages you translated between), and any error codes.
This is information about the software, not about you, and Google states it is sent over an encrypted connection. We cannot switch it off: Google provides no setting for it, and the unofficial ways of blocking it would leave the app silently depending on Google not changing something internal. So we tell you about it instead.
Language packs. The first time you translate into a language, Domovia downloads that language pack once (about 30 MB) so translation then works fully offline. You see the size first, and you can restrict downloads to Wi-Fi or switch them off.
Location (optional “Near me”)
The Places screen has an optional “Use my location” feature. If — and only if — you tap it and grant permission:
- Domovia requests foreground location while you're using the app (never background location).
- Your coordinate is used transiently, in memory, to centre the map and sort nearby places by distance.
- It is never stored, logged, cached or uploaded, and it is not shared with anyone.
Declining keeps the entire app working; you simply won't see “nearest first” sorting. You can revoke the permission at any time in your phone's settings.
Maps and links to official websites
Tapping “Open in Google Maps”, a Directions link, or an official website link hands a location or a web address to your device's own maps app or browser and leaves Domovia. Domovia has no built-in browser and no embedded map. Those apps and websites have their own privacy policies, and Domovia sends no information about you to them.
IP addresses and server logs
Any request over the internet — from any app or browser — necessarily tells the server that answers it your device's IP address, and servers normally keep that in standard access logs. This applies to the hosts that serve Domovia's content updates and translation packs. Those logs belong to the hosting providers, are outside our control, and Domovia neither receives nor stores them. Turning on Offline-only mode stops Domovia making any network request of its own.
The website
The Domovia website is static: it sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party trackers. Fonts and images are served from the site itself, so nothing about you leaks to a third party while a page loads.
The one exception is the optional notify-me form. If you choose to use it, you give us your email address and must tick a box to confirm you want to. It is used only to send you a single message when Domovia launches, is never sold, shared or added to another list, and you can have it removed by replying “remove” to any message from us. The form posts to a form-to-email relay (FormSubmit) which forwards the address to us and does not profile you or run trackers.
This is the website, not the app. The app has no forms, no accounts and no way to send us your information — and the only thing leaving the phone at all is Google's ML Kit technical reporting described above, which never includes what you scanned.
Children
Domovia is a general-information app and does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children. It asks for no name, age, email or account.
Your rights
Because your personal data never leaves your device, you stay in control of it at all times. You can view, change or delete it in the app, wipe everything with “Clear all my data”, or remove it entirely by uninstalling. There is no server-side copy to request or delete, because none was ever sent. (Google's ML Kit technical reporting is handled by Google under its own privacy policy; it contains no personal data of yours and nothing you scanned, and uninstalling Domovia stops it.)
